(Cyperaceae), Saxifraga hirculus L. (Saxifragaceae).

CRITICALLY ENDANGERED PLANT SPECIES OF MIRE HABITATS OF THE VOLOGDA REGION (RUSSIA)
Abstract. This paper is devoted to six plant species protected in the Vologda Region (status categories 1/CR/I – critically endangered species) and growing almost exclusively in mire habitats: Liparis loeselii (L.) Rich., Ophrys insectifera L. (Orchidaceae), Juncus stygius L. (Juncaceae), Schoenus ferrugineus L., Trichophorum cespitosum (L.) Hartm. (Cyperaceae), Saxifraga hirculus L. (Saxifragaceae). Three of them (L. loeselii, O. insectifera, S. ferrugineus) are included in the Red Data Book of the Russian Federation. The distribution of critically endangered mire species in the Vologda Region over the past 200 years is analyzed, new records are presented, the factors and biological and ecological characteristics of the species themselves that affect their vulnerability are summarized, and issues of their conservation are also considered. Recommendations are given for the protection of each species, including granting the status of protected natural areas of regional importance to the four wetlands richest in critically endangered species (Piyavochnoe, Stolupinskoe, Skhenusovoe, Charozerskoe Mires).
Keywords: plant conservation, new records, rare species, specially protected natural areas, Red Data Book, Vologda Region.
